Together, Baby Watch staff and the ICC worked to establish
an ad hoc committee that would be assured of having broad-based
representation. On May 18, 2001, over 100 participants from
diverse interests and backgrounds came together in Salt Lake
City. Rural participation was ensured through video-conferencing
in Price and St. George. Baby Watch requested that this large
ad hoc committee form working groups to explore the areas
of (a) Research
to Practice, (b) Training,
and (c) Service
Delivery. The research working group included researchers
from BYU, University of Utah, and Utah State University. The
training group included staff from Community Mental Health
Center, and faculty members from Utah State University and
the University of Utah. Participants in the service delivery
group came from state agencies, advocacy groups, insurance,
hospital, and early childhood settings. There was parent representation
on all three committees. The designated facilitators from
these three groups contributed an extraordinary amount of
time coordinating all of the meetings and efforts.
Building on the work of the Expanding Options Committee
an Interagency Coordinating Council Practice Model Committee
was formed.
